MY CONCERN ON K-12 PROGRAM

Dear Mr. President, Greetings! I’m Kiara Cordova, Grade 10 student of Ilocos Sur National High School. Sir, I wrote this letter for you to express my concern regarding K-12 program which covers kindergarten and twelve years of basic education (6 years of primary education, 4 years of junior high school and 2 years of senior high school). I want to propose to you the abolition of this curriculum. I know they implemented this program for the development of the students but for me, this is just a burden.

K-12 program aims to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills to prepare the graduates for tertiary education. This objective is good. However, as a student, I’m proposing the abolition of this program because it’s just an additional burden. We’ll have to study 2 years more. It’s tiring especially if a student wants to take long term courses like Medicine or Law. I think a student like me has the ability to improve his/her skills even there’s no K-12, the past president said that after finishing senior high school, one can apply for a job but if the college graduates or degree holders can’t even find a good job, how much more a senior high school graduate. In fact, it’s just a delay for having a career and work earlier as a professional or degree holder. It is also an additional financial burden to parents especially to the poor. Many parents may not afford to let their children pursue their studies and take the courses they want. One thing more, in our school, instead of a normal day school, there were two shifts in senior high school. This is because of the numerous students but lack of classrooms and teaching staffs. I know sir that you are aware that most public schools do not have enough classrooms and facilities and it affects the quality of education for the students.

Mr. President, K-12 program has some benefits but it is expensive and tiring. It is burdensome to both parents and students. Sir, I hope that you take a kind consideration of my concern. Thank you Sir for your good service to our country. I’m grateful and happy that you are our President. You worked hard for the betterment of our country.

  1. I liked how you expressed your true feelings and concern on our education curriculum. I also feel the same as you do but I never really thought about mentioning this in my letter and that's why I like it.
